Thunderstorm Wind — Bedford, Virginia
2025-05-30 · near Forest, Bedford, Virginia
Event narrative
Thunderstorm winds downed a tree on Bateman Bridge Road.
Wider weather episode
A cold front arrived in the area from the west, while the right entrance region of a jet streak aloft embedded in a synoptic scale 500mb trough passed across the Mid Atlantic. The cold front provided stronger forcing, and southwesterly flow ahead of the front helped clouds to clear through the morning, and allowed for instability to increase significantly by the afternoon hours. Shear was favorable for both discrete supercells and more linear modes of convection, and widespread wind damage occurred along and east of the Blue Ridge in Virginia.
