A mesoscale convective vortex moved across the Lower Mississippi Valley during the early morning hours. A second area of convection developed over Central Arkansas and began to approach the Mid-South during the late morning to early afternoon. Surface-based instability flourished across the region along with supportive shear and steep lapse rates, which resulted in damaging winds and large hail across West Tennessee.
