One inch hail was reported in Hammond near I-55 at I-12.

A cold front that moved into the region on May 21st had remained stalled over the Louisiana coast ror a couple days at this point. Strong daytime heating enhanced convective updrafts while temperatures aloft remain quite cool for the time of year. This environment was sufficient to support a severe thunderstorm with large hail.
