Moisture surged northward as a warm front extending from southern Arkansas into central Mississippi lifted across the area during the overnight hours. Convective initiation began by late morning. Damaging winds were the primary concern during the beginning of the event, with large hail occurring toward sunset as lapse rates steepened.
