A member of the public reported 3 inch diameter (tea cup size) hail, via Facebook. The stone was oblong shape, with a width of 1.5 inches.
Wider weather episode
Multiple rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms resulted in several large hail and a few damaging wind reports across the region on May 8th. A high-precipitation supercell thunderstorm developed across the Brush Country/Rio Grande Plains by mid afternoon and held together while crossing through the lower/mid Rio Grande Valley. The supercell produced very large hail across the Brush Country, then dropped a damaging microburst in North McAllen by early evening.
