Thunderstorm winds were estimated around 60-65 mph on FM 922 at Montague-Cooke County line. Tree damage was reported in the area and other objects were moved around.

Wider weather episode

A Northern Plains low pressure system, a northeast-to-southwest oriented stationary front across North Texas, and shortwave trough traversing the Texas Panhandle were all contributing factors to the development of widespread severe weather May 16 and 17. A highly unstable environment led to many instances of large hail and damaging winds.
