Event narrative

Quarter size hail fell in the Belah community.

Wider weather episode

An upper level trough progressed east across the Southern Plains on May 20th, which reinforced a weak surface front southeast through East Texas and Southwest Arkansas, and eventually, into North Louisiana late in the day into the early morning hours on the 21st. The air mass ahead of the front over Northcentral Louisiana remained warm, moist, and unstable, providing ample instability ahead of large scale forcing that progressed east ahead of the trough. As a result, a broken line of strong to severe thunderstorms developed over Northcentral Louisiana during the mid and late afternoon hours, which produced several reports of large hail before exited the area into Central and Northeast Louisiana during the evening hours.
