Wider weather episode

A weak upper level ridge of high pressure was centered over Southeast Oklahoma, Southwest Arkansas, Northeast Texas, and Northwest Louisiana on July 3rd, although a weak upper level disturbance slid southeast around the ridge center across Central and Southern Arkansas during the afternoon. Strong heating and ample low level moisture present yielded strong instability through the afternoon, with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing across portions of Southwest Arkansas, North Louisiana, and East Texas. One of these storms briefly became severe over Southwestern Natchitoches Parish, with damaging winds downing a tree just south of the Provencal community.
