Wider weather episode
Beginning on July 18th, a cold front approached from the west and then stalled over southeast Ohio and West Virginia. The boundary eventually slid north as a warm front on the 19th of July while a low passed across the Great Lakes region and took aim for New England. Another cold front that trailed behind this secondary system approached from the north and then sank down through the middle Ohio Valley and Central Appalachians on the 21st. During this time, the Middle Ohio Valley and Central Appalachians remained firmly entrenched in a warm, moist air mass that facilitated development of showers and thunderstorms in the daytime followed by lulls in precipitation overnight.
On the 18th of the month, one to two inches of rainfall led to flash flooding which affected one road and entered multiple homes in Dickenson County.
