Persistent southerly winds under a building upper-level ridge pushed air temperatures into the mid 90s along with oppressive humidity. Heat indices peaked in the range of 105 to 109 degrees during the afternoon hours. Afternoon convective coverage over performed, and portions of Arkansas were spared from the oppressive heat.
