Event narrative

Utirik and Wotje in the northern RMI remained at D3 (Extreme) drought through the month of June. Wotje reported 2.08 inches of rain for the month of June, falling short of monthly needs (roughly 2 inches a week). The automated station on Utirik reported 4.92 inches for June also falling short of monthly needs. The last month of 8 inches or more of monthly rainfall was November 2024 for both islands. Ailinglapalap started June at D2 (Severe) drought, but would improve to D1 (Moderate) June 3rd after 3.63 inches of rainfall during the week of May 27th to June 2nd. Ailinglapalap would remain at D1 through the end of June, ending with 3.83 inches of rain for the month. Kwajalein also improved from D2 to D1 drought on June 10th after a weekly total of 3.61 inches of rain. Kwajalein would remain at D1 through the end of June, ending with 7.20 inches for the month. Jaluit, which been at D1 since the end of April, degraded to D2 June 24th and ended June with 5.01 inches. Besides for rainfall reports, impact reports remain very limited across the Marshall Islands.

Wider weather episode

Prolong periods of dry weather continued across the Marshall Islands, especially west of Majuro and north of 8N. Dry weather continued at Pingelap in Pohnpei State at the beginning of June, but would improve at the end of June.
