Event narrative
Pingelap degraded from D2 (Severe) to D3 (Extreme) drought on June 3rd, after 0.65 inches of rain fell the previous week and reports for Pingelap stated that most water tanks were a quarter full or less, requiring wells to be used to meet water needs for some daily activities. Rainfall would increase towards the end of June, leading to three consecutive weeks of heavy rainfall, and ending with 10.51 inches for the month. This would lead to improvement to D1 (Moderate) drought July 1st.
Wider weather episode
Prolong periods of dry weather continued across the Marshall Islands, especially west of Majuro and north of 8N. Dry weather continued at Pingelap in Pohnpei State at the beginning of June, but would improve at the end of June.
