Drought — Knox, Nebraska

2025-06-01 to 2025-06-30 · Knox, Nebraska

Event narrative

D3 (extreme) drought conditions at the beginning of the month improved to D1 (moderate) drought across much of the county, though a small area of D2 (severe) drought persisted in west-central Knox County. Rainfall for the month was near-average across most of the county. The cooperative observers at Crofton, Orchard 9NNE, and Crofton 0.7 NNW recorded 4.99, 3.66, and 5.06 inches of precipitation, respectively. These values were 0.73 inches above, 1.20 inches below, and 0.86 inches above average.

Wider weather episode

Severe (D2) to extreme (D3) drought conditions persisted across portions of eastern Nebraska through the month of June. However, significant rainfall, with amounts ranging from 2 to locally 8 inches above average, fell in parts of northeast Nebraska that were previously experiencing extreme drought. This precipitation led to a substantial improvement, with the entire extreme drought area upgrading to moderate (D1) drought by July 1st. Despite this improvement, small pockets of severe drought (D2) still lingered in Knox, Butler, and Seward counties.
