Event narrative
Rota started June in D3 (Extreme) drought, but would improve to D2 (Severe) drought after 4.19 inches of rain fell during the week leading up to June 10th. Rota would further improve to D1 (Moderate) drought on June 17th as a additional 0.77 inches fell between June 10th and 17th. However, Rota would briefly degrade to D2 again June 24th, as the Rota went two consecutive weeks with rainfall below the recommended 1 inch weekly minimum to meet typical water needs. this degrade was short lived as in the last week of June, Rota saw a weekly rainfall total of 5.78 inches, improving the island to D0 (Abnormally Dry). Rota ended the month of June with 10.16 inches of rain.
Wider weather episode
Increased rainfall led to improving drought conditions across Guam and Rota, while a period of drier weather led to short-term degradation for Tinian and Saipan.
