KAKE meteorologist reported most of the hailstones were pea to penny sized, but there were a few quarter sized. The stones were melting quickly on contact with the ground.
Wider weather episode
Thunderstorms developed in the Flint Hills into south central Kansas during the evening hours of the 30th then gradually expanded in coverage across much of southern Kansas. The storms continued into the early morning hours of the 31st. These storms produced damaging winds and up to quarter sized hail in south central and southeast Kansas.
