A house was struck by lightning in Monroe, resulting in the home catching on fire.

An upper level ridge of high pressure in place across the Four State Region on July 29th began to weaken slightly as a westward advancing inverted trough aloft drifted into portions of the Lower Mississippi Valley and Northeast Louisiana. Strong heating with temperatures climbing into the upper 90s to near 100 degrees coupled with rich low level moisture created a very unstable environment, resulting in the development of scattered showers and thunderstorms across much of this area during the afternoon of the 29th. Some of these storms became severe, causing multiple downbursts with strong, damaging winds which downed numerous trees and power lines across Ouachita Parish before diminishing by early evening.
