2025-07-31 · near New Geneva, Fayette, Pennsylvania
Event narrative
Report of large tree down blocking both lanes of New Geneva Road.
Wider weather episode
A weak shortwave riding along a southward sagging boundary supported a broken convective line. A gradient of 1500-2000 J/kg of MLCAPE and near 30 knots of effective shear was enough for a few stronger storms within the broken line. One became severe as it progressed east along the Mason Dixon line and resulted in some damaging wind. Within this environment, PWAT values of 1.9-2.0 inches supported heavy rainfall, especially within training storms along the boundary, and some localized flash flooding i northern West Virginia.
