Beaufort County Fire Department reported that a lightning strike ignited a fire in the lower portion of a home resulting in moderate damage to the structure.

Wider weather episode

Numerous clusters of thunderstorms started developing across southeast South Carolina in the early afternoon hours and gradually spread eastward through the late afternoon. These storms produced damaging wind gusts, frequent cloud to ground lightning, heavy rainfall, and even a weak tornado.
