Wider weather episode
A quick-moving short wave acted upon an environment of 2000 to 3000 J/kg of instability and 25 to 30 kts of bulk shear to generate an eastward moving line of thunderstorms across central and southeast South Dakota during the late evening of July 9 and into the early overnight hours of July 10. With waning instability, the thunderstorms weakened as they approached the I-29 corridor, but still produced scattered severe wind gusts up to 70 mph and hail up to 1 inch in diameter.
