Drought — Saipan, Guam

2025-07-01 to 2025-07-08 · Saipan, Guam

Event narrative

Tinian started July in D2 (Severe) Drought, while Saipan improved from D3 ( Extreme) Drought to D2 (Severe) Drought right at the beginning of July. With the Marianas entering it typical wet season, the islands started to regularly meet 1-inch minimum weekly rainfall to meet environmental and human needs. After 3.55 inches fell at Tinian and 1.93 inches at the Saipan International Airport during the first week of July, both locations improved to D1 (Moderate) Drought. Both locations would become drought and dryness free on July 22nd. Saipan International Airport would end July with 14.03inches of rain and Tinian ended the month with 16.39 inches. Much of this rain was driven by a wet monsoon pattern and the development of Tropical Strom Krosa west of the Mariana Islands near the end of July.

Wider weather episode

Drought conditions improved as the Marianas entered its typical wet season, seeing increased rainfall across the island chain and meeting weekly water needs. Rainfall also started to increase across the Republic of the Marshall Islands during the month of July due to an active trade-wind pattern.
