Event narrative
Extensive wind damage occurred across Maroa. The roof of a township building on South Wood Street was blown off and approximately 100 trees were blown down across town. A camper was blown over and crops near town were flattened. In addition, a solar farm on the south side of Maroa was destroyed.
Wider weather episode
A cluster of thunderstorms intensified over Logan and Macon counties during the pre-dawn hours of August 19th. One of the cells produced a downburst with 80-100 mph winds and significant wind damage in the town of Maroa in Macon County. Strong 70-80 mph winds also caused damage further south in Forsyth on the north side of Decatur.
