Wider weather episode
A weak upper level disturbance backdoored southwest into the eastern sections of Northcentral Louisiana during the afternoon of September 17th, around an upper level ridge of high pressure that was anchored from the Southern Plains, Ozarks, and the Mid-Mississippi Valley. This disturbance interacted with residual boundaries leftover from severe thunderstorms that affected this area the previous day on the 16th, as well as available low level moisture and moderate to strong instability once temperatures climbed into the mid to upper 90s. As a result, an isolated strong thunderstorm developed over Northeast Lincoln Parish, which produced dime to penny size hail in the Douglas community.
