Event narrative

Wider weather episode
A cold front moving south through the region stalled as it reached the Louisiana coast during the afternoon hours. The boundary served as a focus for scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop over the nearshore waters. With ample low-level moisture and weak surface convergence along the boundary, conditions were favorable for the development of waterspouts. Multiple reports and videos from the public and social media confirmed waterspouts forming offshore of the Louisiana coastline. In one notable instance, a video captured four waterspouts occurring simultaneously over the coastal waters before dissipating. No damage or injuries were reported.
