2025-10-01 to 2025-10-31 · Southeast Randolph, West Virginia
Wider weather episode
Drought conditions carried over into the month of October for portions of north, central, and eastern West Virginia. The first week of the month saw little to no change from the end of September, with moderate (D1) to extreme drought (D3) in parts of Barbour, Boone, Braxton, Calhoun, Clay, Fayette, Gilmer, Jackson, Lewis, Lincoln, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Roane, Taylor, Upshur, Webster, and Wyoming counties. An area of moderate (D1) to severe (D2) drought was also present in northern Doddridge, northern Pleasants, and Tyler Counties.
Although some minor improvements did occur in parts of central and northwest West Virginia over the next couple of weeks, moderate to extreme drought conditions largely remained unchanged along and east of I-79 and along and north of I-64 through the end of the month.
Worst impacts continued to exist within the northeast mountains and adjacent foothills where stream flows and groundwater wells continued to decline, crop yields were reduced, and livestock producers reported early cattle sales, supplemental hay feeding, and the need to haul water.
