Dense Fog — De Soto, Louisiana
2025-11-05 · De Soto, Louisiana
Wider weather episode
At approximately 4 am on November 5th, very localized dense superfog developed near a low lying creek valley along I-49 at mile marker 162 near the intersection of Highway 177 in extreme Southeast Desoto Parish. There were multiple nearby controlled burns around the area for the preceding few days that potentially could have contributed to the extremely dense and localized fog in that location. This created zero visibility, contributing to an 18 wheeler rollover in the northbound lane of I-49. Multiple other vehicles were involved in a chain reaction accident, with multiple crashes also occurring in the southbound lane at this same location. The deputies on scene described the visibility reduction where the accidents occurred as an abrupt wall of fog that was very localized. A 50 year-old male was killed, and one other person was injured from this accident. While the southbound lane of I-49 was closed only briefly during the morning, the northbound lane was closed for approximately 12 hours.
