Event narrative
Severe (D2) drought conditions over west central Garden County, improved to moderate (D1) drought conditions by the end of September. Abnormally dry (D0) conditions were present over the remainder of the county through the end of the month. The cooperative observer at Lisco reported 1.78 inches of precipitation for September. This was 0.17 inches above the normal of 1.61 inches. The cooperative observer at Oshkosh reported 1.99 inches of precipitation in September. This was 0.47 inches above the normal of 1.52 inches. The cooperative station at Oshkosh 10NE reported 1.30 inches of precipitation in September.
Wider weather episode
Normal to above normal rainfall in September, led to improvement in drought conditions across most of western and north central Nebraska in September. Drought conditions improved one category with the exception of Boyd and northern Holt County, where moderate (D1) drought conditions persisted. The greatest improvement was over the western Sandhills and eastern panhandle where drought conditions improved from severe (D2) to moderate (D1) drought.
