Flood — Vanderburgh, Indiana

2025-10-07 · near Evansville, Vanderburgh, Indiana

Event narrative

Social media reports of standing water over roads continued into mid-morning in Evansville as rainfall from earlier flash flooding had largely moved out of the area.

Wider weather episode

Low pressure centered over SEMO slowly drifted eastward into the day. Tropical moisture streamed northeastward into the Quad State early morning on the 7th pushing dew points into the upper 60s to near 70 and precipitable water values of up to 1.75-2. Instability and shear were limited during the morning, preventing any severe thunderstorm development. An extended cold front from Quebec to Texas had crossed into the Quad State earlier, setting up a convergence zone near the Ohio River. Upon reaching the Ohio, showers tracked more east-northeasterly, producing training heavy rainfall near the IN/KY border. Flash flooding developed in Evansville, while rainfall of five inches in Spencer County produced widespread areal flooding on roads.
