Event narrative
Gust measured from personal weather station.
Wider weather episode
A surface low was centered over Nebraska with an associated boundary stretching into Minnesota. Early on the morning of August 9th this boundary had stalled across northwest to west central Iowa. Storms were elevated, but the low level jet helped to erode the cap through the early morning hours and storms were able to tap into 3500+ J/kg of MLCAPE. With 30 kts of 0-6 km shear, storm storms were able to persist but the mode was a messy linear and multi cell hybrid. Storms produced wind damage many communities in west central and northwest Iowa, mainly to trees and outbuildings. Storms were also efficient rain producers with 3+ inches reported in many locations, though no flooding occurred.
