A prolonged period of below normal rainfall lead to severe drought in Harrison and Jackson Counties in Mississippi. These drought conditions would last from the start of the month until October 28th when beneficial rainfall lowered drought conditions below severe.

A prolonged period of below-normal rainfall led to the development of severe drought (D2) conditions across Harrison and Jackson Counties. Rainfall deficits peaked during mid-October, with locations observing approximately 2.96 inches of rainfall since September 1 compared to a normal of 8.23 inches, a deficit of 5.27 inches. Severe drought conditions persisted through late October before widespread beneficial rainfall of 2 to 5 inches on October 25th and 26th improved soil moisture and hydrologic conditions, resulting in drought severity falling below D2.
