Wider weather episode
A strong low pressure produced a late fall system that brought a round of rain and heavy snow, as well as very gusty winds to the Upper Midwest. The combination of heavy falling snow and northwest winds gusting to around 25 to 35 mph resulted in hazardous travel, especially across portions of northwest Wisconsin where the strongest winds overlapped with falling snow.
Snowfall reports were limited across the region due to the blowing and drifting that occurred overnight, so nearby reports were used to supplement the analysis. This include a 7.0 inch report near Shell Lake, WI and 7.4 inch report near Sarona near the Washburn/Barron county border, as well as a 6.5 inch report near Rush City in northeastern Chisago County.
The greatest snowfall amounts were reported along and just north of the northern portions of Polk, Barron, and Rusk counties, topping out around 4 to 7 inches.
The top snowfall reports were:
4.8 inches in Turtle Lake, WI (Polk).
4.0 inches near Osceola, WI (Polk).
4.0 inches in Roberts, WI (St Croix).
3.7 inches in Woodville, WI (St Croix).
3.0 inches near Balsam Lake, WI (Polk).
