Drought — Natchitoches, Louisiana

2025-11-13 to 2025-11-30 · Natchitoches, Louisiana

Wider weather episode

Above normal temperatures and a prolonged period of below normal rainfall was observed across Sabine and Natchitoches Parishes in West-Central Louisiana throughout October, which continued through the first three and a half weeks of November. In fact, during a nearly four week period from the final week of October to the third week of November, less than a quarter inch fell across much of the county. Pastures across these areas quickly browned and dried out, and stock ponds levels were very low to completely dry, with ag producers required to provide supplemental feed and water to their cattle. In fact, some cattle herds had to be sold off due to the lack of feed and water. These very dry conditions and impacts resulted in severe (D2) flash drought conditions developing across these areas during mid to late November, before some beneficial rains fell during the final week of November. Even so, little runoff was produced from the 1-2+ inch rains to refill stock ponds or improve pasture conditions, thus maintaining severe drought conditions into mid-December.
