Winter Weather — Northwest Fayette, West Virginia

2025-12-02 · Northwest Fayette, West Virginia

Wider weather episode

A low pressure sweeping through West Virginia beginning in the early morning hours of December 2nd set forth a combination of freezing rain and snow. These widespread showers persisted through the late morning across the lower elevations while propelling further into the day along the higher terrain. Precipitation coverage diminished from west to east on December 2nd as the culprit disturbance behind this event departed to the east.

While temperatures across southern West Virginia remained warm enough for precipitation to fall as rain, wintry weather took shape for the northern half of the state. Snow totals ranged between 1 to 4 inches from this event, with the highest amounts measured in Doddridge County by a local CoCoRaHS volunteer. Embedded freezing rain also resulted in ice accretion ranging from a few hundredths of an inch in the Kanawha Valley up to a tenth of an inch measured by a trained spotter in Lewis County.
