Winter Weather — Southeast Pocahontas, West Virginia

2025-12-08 · Southeast Pocahontas, West Virginia

Wider weather episode

Wintry precipitation migrated back into West Virginia just after midnight on December 8th due to a passing disturbance aloft. Cold temperatures already in place as the system arrived allowed for precipitation to fall as snow, and remained the case through the entire event. A band of heavy snowfall began to take shape during the late morning hours along the I-64 corridor, contributing to the tight gradient featuring significant accumulations. Spots in and around the Charleston metro area observed snow amounts on the order of 4 to 7 inches, while locations northward obtained very little snowfall. Along the higher terrain, 4 to 8 inches of snow were measured. This disturbance quickly dashed eastward by the evening of December 8th, making way for dry weather under the guise of high pressure to settle into the region.
