Heavy Snow — Mason, West Virginia
2025-12-13 to 2025-12-14 · Mason, West Virginia
Wider weather episode
A clipper system that sailed across the Ohio Valley from December 13th to the 14th prompted widespread accumulations for parts of West Virginia. Snow stretched initially through north-central West Virginia in the early afternoon of December 13th before drifting further southward down into the state later that evening.
Heavy snow encompassed the vast majority of the NWS Charleston, WV's forecast area during the late evening hours as a healthy plume of moisture cut across the northern half of the state. This contributed to the highest snowfall totals ranging between 5 to 10 inches in locations across north-central West Virginia and into the northeast Appalachian Mountains. For the Charleston metro area and down into the southern West Virginia coalfields, half an inch to around 3 inches of snow fell during the duration of this event.
Accumulating snow showers quickly came to an end on the afternoon of December 14th as the clipper system dashed quickly to the east.
