Event narrative
Snowfall totals of 7.5 inches just west of Midland.
Wider weather episode
A post-Thanksgiving winter storm produced 3 to 8 inches of snow across most of Southeast Michigan. The highest totals, ranging from 5 to 8 inches, occurred over the Tri-Cities region. Notable reports included 7.8 inches in St. Charles (Saginaw County), 7.5 inches just west of Midland (Midland County), and 6.6 inches in Bay City (Bay County). The wet and heavy nature of the snow made roads very slippery. The Michigan State Police and local news outlets (like WDIV and CBS Detroit) noted that dozens of minor spin-outs and fender-benders occurred throughout the Metro Detroit area as the heaviest snow fell between 6:00 PM Saturday and 4:00 AM Sunday.
Milder air near Lake Erie and the Detroit and St. Clair rivers led to lower accumulations, with totals remaining under 3 inches for those immediate shoreline areas.
