Event narrative
Approximately 3 to 5 inches of snow fell across the county. CoCoRaHS observers measured 5 inches of snow in South St. Paul, 5.1 inches 3 miles ENE of Burnsville, 4.8 inches 2 miles N of Rosemount, and 3 inches 2.5 miles N of Northfield. Additionally, the AWOS station located at Airport Lakes in Lakeville observed three-quarters of a mile of visibility due to falling snow which caused slippery roadways and hazardous travel conditions.
Wider weather episode
A potent clipper system moved across Minnesota on December 9th, 2025. Areas across southwestern MN observed a mix of rain, freezing rain which eventually transitioned over to all snow. However, a tight transition zone between precipitation types set up along the I-94 corridor where 3 to 5 inches of snow fell. Areas north of I-94, observed heavy snow accumulations between six to eight inches.
