Event narrative

A snow squall which developed in the vicinity of Frenchville tracked southeast along the Route 1A corridor impacting the towns of Grand Isle and Van Buren before exiting into New Brunswick. The snow squall generally produced wind gusts ranging from 30 to 40 mph. Heavy snow and blowing snow reduced visibilities to a quarter mile...or less...at times. The snow squall produced rapid localized snow accumulations up to an inch.

Wider weather episode

A strong cold front crossing the region...along with an upper level disturbance tracking north of Maine...helped support an isolated snow squall across northern Aroostook county during the late afternoon of the 21st. The snow squall developed in the vicinity of Frenchville. The snow squall then tracked southeastward along the Route 1A corridor impacting the towns of Grand Isle and Van Buren before exiting into New Brunswick. The snow squall produced a peak 43 mph wind gust at Frenchville...with most gusts generally ranging from 30 to 40 mph. Heavy snow and blowing snow reduced visibilities to a quarter mile...or less...at times. The snow squall produced rapid localized snow accumulations up to an inch.
