Strong Wind — Meigs, Ohio
2025-12-29 · Meigs, Ohio
Wider weather episode
Shortly after midnight on December 29th, an uptick in wind gusts took shape in the wake of an overnight cold front across southeast Ohio. A tightened pressure gradient in the wake of the front inflicted these elevated winds, and prevailed over the area through much of the day before diminishing in strength later that evening. Observation stations in Athens and Jackson Counties recorded wind gusts of around 45 miles per hour around the time of the frontal passage early on the 29th, and remained breezy to strong through most of the day. Power outages occurred as a result of downed trees and power lines that blew down in the midst of the higher winds.
