Winter Weather — Braxton, West Virginia

2026-01-01 · Braxton, West Virginia

Wider weather episode

The start of the new year was rung in with heavy snow showers that set up primarily along the northeast West Virginia mountains. Snow was ongoing from the night of New Years Eve, which was the result of a passing clipper system. This disturbance jetted off the eastern seaboard by the middle of the day on January 1st, leaving behind 5 to 8 inches of snow along the foothills and around a foot of snow for the higher mountainous areas of Randolph and Pocahontas Counties. For the lowlands, a few passing snow squalls contributed to light snow amounts between 1 to 3 inches.
