Wider weather episode
A surface low moved into the region from the southwest on Thursday the 15th, with precipitation beginning as rain. As the center of the low passed overhead, colder air filtered in behind it, causing the rain to transition to snow. In its wake, northwesterly flow set up and produced lake-effect snow showers, bringing additional accumulation to North Central NY through Friday morning the 16th. These lake-effect snow showers gradually tapered off by midday Friday.
