A southern stream disturbance skirted across the Upper Mississippi Valley into the Carolinas beginning on January 30th, with the northern fringes of the disturbance extending into portions of southern West Virginia. Snow began in the coalfields around daybreak on the 30th and continued to snow for the next 24 hours as the storm tracked into the Mid-Atlantic region. Snow accumulations were mainly contained to Wyoming and McDowell Counties due to the southern trajectory of this event. Local Department of Highways measured around six inches of snow along the higher elevations of McDowell County and between two and three inches of snow in Wyoming County. All other counties in the state remained dry during this event.
