Event narrative

A mix of sleet and freezing rain began during the morning of the 24th. TXDoT reported the main lanes of Toll 183A closed due to icing at around 7 pm. Storm total accumulations included 1.1 of sleet in Round Rock, 1 of sleet in Liberty Hill, 1 of sleet in Cedar Park, and 1.5 of sleet in Hutto.

Wider weather episode

A deep upper-level low moved across northern Mexico bringing a strong cold front through South-Central Texas. This resulted in very cold air in the boundary layer with a layer of above freezing air aloft which produced sleet and freezing rain.
