Event narrative
An accident occurred at approximately 1425 LST on Route 155 in New Scotland, resulting in the death of a 69 year old woman. Her vehicle collided with a delivery truck on a slippery roadway. The driver of the truck was taken to a hospital, and it was determined that his injuries were not life threatening.
Another accident was reported on Route 7, approximately one half mile west of the Collar City Bridge in Cohoes early Monday afternoon. An eastbound vehicle crossed the median and collided with a westbound car. Two minor injuries were reported, and one vehicle sustained heavy damage.
Wider weather episode
A strengthening low pressure system tracked northeast from the southeast coast on Sunday morning, March 1st, to just southeast of Long Island by Monday morning March 2nd. The low then headed northeast into the Canadian maritimes by Tuesday March 3rd.
This storm system spread a swath of moderate to heavy snow across the mid Hudson Valley, the eastern Catskills, and Taconics, beginning early Monday morning, and ending by late Monday afternoon.
Total snowfall accumulations ranged from 4 to 9 inches across the mid Hudson Valley, southeast Catskills and southern Taconics, with generally 4 inches or less further north and west.
This snowfall led to treacherous travel conditions for the Monday morning commute, with numerous accidents reported. In addition, several closures, or delayed openings of schools and businesses occurred Monday morning due to the snowfall.
