A 972 mb low in the Northeast Gulf of Alaska Combined with a 1028 mb high near the Brooks Range to produce heavy upslope snow across the north slopes of the Eastern Alaska Range and in portions of the Upper Tanana Valley south of the Alaska Highway. Snow developed at approximately 11 pm on the 28th south of the Robertson River Bridge off the Alaska Highway (zone 224), and continued through October 31st. A total of 13.2 inches of snow had fallen by 4 pm on the 29th, with a storm total of 20 inches by 9 am on the 31st. Based on the observations from the NWS Storm Spotter south of the Robertson River Bridge, about 12 miles west of Tanacross, it is very likely that similar or greater amounts of snow fell along parts of the north facing slopes in the Eastern Alaska Range. A cooperative observer at Dry Creek reported a storm total of 11.3 inches from this event.
