A low pressure center moved eastward across central Illinois and Indiana, bringing one to three inches of snow to southeast Missouri. Amounts varied from about an inch along and south of Highway 60 to as much as three inches in the Perryville area. U.S. Highway 60 runs from Van Buren and Poplar Bluff to Sikeston and Charleston. Most schools were cancelled. A number of accidents occurred. An elderly woman died on Highway 25 near Advance when the vehicle she was riding in slid off the road and flipped into a water-filled ditch (indirect fatality). The male driver of the vehicle sustained moderate injuries. On Interstate 55 eight miles north of Miner, a woman was moderately injured in a two-vehicle wreck (indirect injury). In the city of Cape Girardeau, police reported nine weather-related accidents. None of the wrecks were serious. Scott County sheriff personnel reported six wrecks, none of which were serious. A tractor-trailer rig left the road and overturned on westbound Interstate 57. Very cold temperatures in the wake of the cold front preserved the snow cover for several days. Minor blowing and drifting of snow occurred.
