Event narrative
Up to one half of an inch of snowfall fell in Cullman County. Refreezing of melted snowfall created slick conditions on the 8th causing at least one accident. This accident turned tragic when a 19 year old lost his life after his vehicle crossed the center line and ran head on into a truck. The highest observed snowfall amount was 0.5 inches in West Point.
Wider weather episode
After midnight on the 6th into the day on the 7th, a low pressure system which had developed in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico brought snowfall to northern Alabama. Most locations received around one half of an inch. However, isolated locations received around 1 inch of snowfall.
Refreezing of the melted snowfall produced slick conditions on the morning of the 8th. Icing was widespread across Marshall and DeKalb Counties. Emergency management officials discouraged travel in both counties. Numerous car accidents were reported across northern Alabama.
