Event narrative

Low temperatures dropped to near 32 degrees over isolated areas in southwest sections of Miami-Dade County, primarily in the Redland and Homestead farming districts. Patchy frost was noted on the morning of January 6th and 7th.

Extent of crop damage is unknown, but some damage to sensitive tropical plants was noted.

Wider weather episode

A strong arctic cold front moved through south Florida late on January 1. This ushered in a period of much below normal temperatures which lasted through January 7th. This was the first of two periods of much below normal temperatures which impacted south Florida during January 2010.
