Winter Weather — Eastern Polk, North Carolina
2010-02-04 to 2010-02-05 · Eastern Polk, North Carolina
Wider weather episode
Low pressure moved across the deep south, spreading light snow over the southern mountains of North Carolina during the late afternoon. The snow gradually spread north and east into the North Carolina foothills and piedmont during the evening and overnight hours. The snow mixed with sleet during the evening, before changing to mostly sleet after midnight, then changing to rain as temperatures warmed during the pre-dawn hours. Total accumulations of sleet and snow ranged from trace amounts along the edge of the southern escarpment of the Blue Ridge, to 3 inches north of I-40 and in the higher elevations of the Balsams. Heavier snow fell across the central and northern mountains as well as the foothills of North Carolina, which is detailed elsewhere in Storm Data.
