Event narrative
A thunderstorm cell observed by radar moved toward the northwest with a distinct hook echo. Waterspouts were possible under this cell along with wind gusts above 35 KT.
This observation was made around 1340 AKST on 11/1. Buoy 46084 had sustained wind of 33 KT with gusts to 42 KT and seas 13 FT.
Wider weather episode
A major winter storm had explosive development well south of Kodiak on Halloween. The deepest that the storm got was 940 MB. On 11/1, a very strong front associated with this storm moved onto the coast of SE Alaska. Warm moist air moving over colder air in the northern Lynn Canal area caused heavy snow especially for higher elevations. Thunderstorms also developed behind the front in the Cape Decision area.
