Event narrative

The public reported that one inch hail fell in northern Gratiot county near the intersection of Jefferson and Begole roads.

Wider weather episode

Scattered severe thunderstorms developed east of the US-131 corridor during the late afternoon hours of May 31st in an axis of strong instability in advance of an approaching cold front. Hail up to an inch and a half in diameter was reported three to four miles east of Mount Pleasant. A trained spotter in Winn in southern Isabella county also reported 65 to 75 mph wind gusts in conjunction with one inch hail with that severe storm.
